March Third Thursday Program, Women Leaders for Social Justice

On March 16, 2023, from 12-1 p.m., Connecticut Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz will join the CT State Library and the Connecticut’s Women Hall of Fame in a program that celebrates Women’s History Month. 

The Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame (CWHF) honors the achievements of women by celebrating their legacies and telling their powerful stories, inspiring women and girls to realize their own limitless potential. In the last 400 years, CWHF Inductees have fought discrimination and persevered to reduce the disparity felt between men and women, transgender people, immigrants, and more. Louisa Iacurci, Interim Education Manager at the CWHF, will lead a discussion about Hall of Fame inductees who have had an impact on social justice. Some of the inductees highlighted in Iacurci’s talk are: Maria Miller Stewart, Constance Baker Motley, Ann Stanback, Jerimarie Liesegang, Kica Matos and Teresa Younger!

Louisa has a Masters In Education from American University in Washington, D.C. and 30 years of teaching experience ranging from kindergarten through adult learners. This experience includes both public and private school systems. Louisa has a passion for teaching and volunteers for the Literacy Volunteers of Valley Shore, teaching English as a second language to adults. She enjoys bringing amazing women’s stories to life and encouraging all learners to be intrinsically motivated to love learning everyday! Louisa resides in Madison, CT and loves CT history, especially women’s history!
