Dr. Matthew Warshauer will lead a brief discussion on The “Meanness” of past political elections in the United States

(Hartford, CT) Negative political campaigns are nothing new, but what can citizens do to make them better?  On Friday, October 28, join a pre-election Conversation at Noon that touches on current efforts to increase voter participation and strengthen Connecticut through greater civic engagement.  Dr. Matthew Warshauer from Central Connecticut State University will start the program with a brief discussion on the “meanness” of past political elections in the United States, particularly the contests of 1800 and 1828.  Rather than bemoaning the negativity of the 2016 campaign, join the Connecticut Network’s (CT-N) Diane Smith for a panel discussion on how to improve the state of civics in Connecticut.

Dr. Warshauer will be joined on the panel by Michelle Mays from the Hartford Foundation’s “My Hope. My Voice. My Vote” campaign, which is encouraging citizens to vote. The Conversation will touch on Connecticut’s civic health. This program is free and sponsored by Connecticut Humanities.
