The State Library, with funding from the Historic Documents Preservation Fund, announces the publication of the next volume in the Public Records of the State of Connecticut series. One copy of the volume is available for free to every Connecticut public library, publicly funded college or university library, incorporated historical society, Judicial Department court library, or Connecticut State Documents Depository Library. A limited number of copies are available for purchase by the public.
Volume 22 covers the 1823 and 1824 General Assembly legislative sessions, which “were dominated by two major themes: political fragmentation on the state and national levels and the revival of Connecticut’s economy after the recession of the early 1820s. Both represented the increasingly close linkages between national trends and developments in the state. No longer an outlier, as in the years before the major constitutional, ecclesiastical, and fiscal reforms of 1818-1820, Connecticut now responded more readily to the national mainstream. Most visible during 1823-1824 were the political developments which culminated in the splintered U.S. presidential election of 1824.
