SUMMARY:February Third Thursday Event: Finding Your Legacy African American Genealogy In Connecticut
DESCRIPTION:Adrienne Billings-Smith will discuss the journey researchers who are interested in discovering Black Heritage can follow using the many resources found at the Connecticut State Library. Adrienne is a local attorney and Town Councilor in West Hartford\, Connecticut. She also founded Concerned Parents of Color of West Hartford (CPCWH) in 2020 to advocate for change in education\, legislation\, and better representation. Her vision is to build and sustain an open\, honest dialogue with leaders of the state\, and to ensure that black\, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and other marginalized communities have their voices heard and supported. DESCRIPTION:Author and Historian Douglas Arnold will give a talk on the 1818 Constitutional Convention\, and the political aftermath\, including fiscal reform on October 18\, 2018\, 12:00 P.M.-12:45 P.M.\, at the Connecticut State Library. In 1818\, enough dissenters from the Congregational Church organized to unseat the Federalist Party (the traditional party of the Congregationalist) in Connecticut. Consequently\, the newly empowered state republicans called for a constitutional Convention to overhaul the state’s government along more liberal lines. The republican aim was disestablishment of the Congregational Church and the establishment of the 1818 Constitution.

SUMMARY:20th Anniversary Celebration of the Connecticut Freedom Trail Bike Ride and The Freedom Trail Quilt
DESCRIPTION:Hartford\, CT- On September 22\, 2018\, from 8:00 AM-3:00 PM\, the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office\, Connecticut State Library\, Museum of Connecticut History\, Friends of Prudence Crandall Museum\, and the Center for Latino Progress/BiCi Co will commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Connecticut Freedom Trail Bike Ride at the Connecticut State Library. The first segment of the Celebration will began at 8:00 A.M.\, with a Bicycle tour of several Hartford Freedom Trail sites. \nBicyclists participating in this event\, will meet in the rear at the Connecticut State Library\, 231 Capitol Avenue\, at the Oak Street entrance of the building   \nAll Bicycles will to have to be checked and signed in no later than 8:30am.  The ride will leave at 9:00am\, and return to the Library by 11:45am. \n At the conclusion of the bicycle tour there will be a theatrical performance that will include several panelist who will portray luminaries of the Freedom Trail in the Museum of Connecticut History. Actors Marvin Jefferson\, (Paul Robeson)\, Norman Marshall (John Brown)\, Dana Fripp (Marian Anderson)\,  Donna Dufresne\, (Prudence Crandall)\, Kit Webb (Mark twain)\, will answer questions and perform in their characters. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Commemorating the 100th Anniversary Battle of Seicheprey
DESCRIPTION:“Remembering Seicheprey and the Boys from Connecticut’s 102nd Infantry” \nEarly in the morning of 20 April 1918\, 3\,000 German storm troopers attacked the town of Seicheprey\, engaging soldiers of the 102nd Regiment in the first major military action undertaken by American troops in World War I. 81 Connecticut soldiers were Killed in Action as the 102nd Regiment repulsed the German attack.  The memory of these Connecticut soldiers’ bravery and sacrifice has faded in the 100 years since the action at Seicheprey occurred. \nPlease Join us.
