Reference & Information Services
The Access Service Group is the reference and research arm of the Connecticut State Library. The Library contains extensive collections of governmental and historical materials that reflect Connecticut’s long history. We assist members of the public and government agencies in using our resources and collections through our three specialized reference sections.
Government Information Reference Services maintains and provides access to Connecticut and United States government publications, public policy resources and general reference resources. This section supports the Library’s role as the Regional Federal Depository for Connecticut and Rhode Island and as the Connecticut State Documents repository.
History & Genealogy Reference Services maintains and provides access to materials on the history of Connecticut and its people. Here the emphasis is on both Connecticut and New England resources through genealogies, historical newspapers, local histories and vital records. This section serves as the access point for the Connecticut State Archives.
Law & Legislative Reference Services maintains and provides access to a comprehensive collection of state and federal legal publications. This section serves as the permanent home of Connecticut General Assembly official transcripts and legislative bill files. This section also indexes legislative bills and transcripts , and complies legislative histories for Connecticut Public and Special Acts.
