An update on the new Connecticut State Library catalog- we will be switching over soon. Test drive the new system select this link to the new catalog and give it a try. But first read the overview below.
The State Library catalog is now part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities Libraries Consortium (CSCU) “discovery” system, called Primo. Primo presents our collections and electronic resources in a different way. You will still be able to search the holdings of the State Library as you did through our previous catalog, CONSULS. You can search electronic databases as you did before. Under the Primo umbrella you can combine the two searches into one. Primo Central can provide some full text articles from our subscription or free databases.
You can use an advance search from the start or refine results by using options listed on the left of the screen.
Primo will provide 4 searching filters:
- CSL Catalog (in print and online books, reports);
- Primo Central (various subscription indexing and abstracting databases, full text articles & free access data sources);
- CSL Catalog and Primo Central (a combination search);
- CSCU Library Consortium (items that may be available at the other consortium libraries).
You choose what fits your research needs.
Example – Using the same search terms in the different filters:
CSL Catalog may return a 100 entries.
Primo Central may return 600 electronic journals and online resources.
CSL Catalog, Primo Central would return 700 entries.
CSCU Library Consortium may return 250 entries. This search allows you to see resources owned or subscribed to by the other consortium libraries. To use these resources you may have to visit the library or ask your local library to get the materials through Inter-Library Loan.
Please, remember that databases subscribed to by a library may ONLY be available within that library.
