Last week the Legislature passed and the Governor signed legislation that removed $10,338,639 from the State Library’s bond funding for public library construction grants. This does not affect any of the grants that have been awarded previously, but we were unsure about the impact of this legislation on future grant awards and took the precaution of suspending the grant program for this year.
After careful examination of available funds, however, we are pleased to announce that the State Library has approximately $3 million in funds available for 2016 and therefore we WILL be accepting construction grant applications this year after all. This is less funding than we have had in previous years so the grant award process will be more competitive. Libraries have until June 30 to submit their “Notice of Intent” form for their projects. Applications will be due by September 1. For more information about the program, and to download the Notice of Intent form, go to State Library Construction Grant Program.
